           A bladder scanner is a portable ultrasound device used to measure urinary retention, that is, the volume of urine within the bladder. This can help diagnose things like urinary retention or if the patient is having a large post-void residual (aka “PVR, ” the amount of urine that remains in the bladder after urination).
